I just finished reading Molly Weizenberg’s new book Delancey – A Man, A Woman, A Restaurant, A Marriage.
Molly is the author of one my favorite blogs, Orangette so of course I had to have her new book on my shelf. I picked up Delancey from the bookstore without even examining the cover, assuming it’s a book of Molly’s recipes (Yes, it says “Memoir” on the cover, I know now… ). I started flipping through the pages when I got home to find a very honest and witty memoir of Molly and her husband Brandon opening their first Seattle restaurant Delancey.
The book isn’t only about Molly and Brandon building a successful restaurant together, in fact, center stage you read about the toll it takes on their young marriage. She recounts the hardships and the fear of building not only a business but a life from ground up.
There are also 20 recipes in Delancey. Molly notes that these recipes were by no means what they were eating during the opening of the restaurant, more so “what we wished we were eating”. She describes them as the recipes she turns to now, when they don’t have time to cook together but still want to make the most if the time they have. The sort that comes together quickly, straight forward and big flavored recipes. The ones I’ve tried so far definitely fit that bill.
I’ve included an unedited recipe for the Rosemary and Ginger Shortbread in this post. These delicious cookies are one of my favorite things at them moment.
I feel like calling them adult cookies. Continue reading Rosemary and Ginger Shortbread
